So. Just after your thoughts on this..

80L / 20G nano tank
Eheim Pro 200 Canister Filter (600LPH)
Eheim 350 Skimmer
Eheim 100W Heater
LED set high up
Biological CO2 + daily liquid ferts

Estsblished for 4 months with anubias below and a devils ivy above. Currently no fish now.

What would you do with it? I was edging towards just a SA community of 18ish small tetra (i.e ember or neon), 6 smaller Cory cats (i.e pgymy or panda) and some otos. Thoughts?

Or would you do something different with it? Would live to hear suggestions. I'm pretty open to anything.

Looks awesome, can do Cory catfish or bumblebee catfish and get like a top to mid dweller like neon tetras.

edit: I didn’t even read when you said you where thinking of this?

Haha no worries, you were clearly on the money!

Anyone else got other suggestions or concur with this stocking idea?

Id put some long lush plants in the background and some midground voilage. IME anubias grow under whatever light and no co2. You got a co2 system, might aswell get the most out of it.

Stock wise; a school of galaxy rasboras, small species of cory, bunch of otto's and a couple of marbled hatchetfish for the upper level.

Ive heard that pygmy corys are more of a midground swimmer, so if you want corys as a bottom fish you might want to avoid them.

Btw, that piece of driftwood is amazing?

It depends on the species of Cory. There are a few that are classified as pigmy. Some are true bottom dwellers, and some will swim around the tank. Sorry I can't be more help then that. I'm not very versed in corys. Check out Rachel O'Leary she's all about that nano stuff.

Personally I would go with with 7-8 pigmy cories, 7-8 celestial pearl danio's, 3-4 scarlet badis, and maybe a school of 5-6 celebes half beaks. With all that that should give ya a good mix of bottom, mid and top level fish that should have no issues with each other.

Oh I would also add in some frog bit to the top of the tank along with the plants that others have suggested. Maybe some dwarf hair grass to carpet the bottom of the tank around the drift wood too.

Btw I'm not certain if all if any of the species of fish I recommended are SA or not but that's what I would go with.

I had thought about more plants, but to be honest I like the anubias because it's no hassle, nothing to prune or die on me. Believe it or not I'm managed to kill off African fern and java fern!! At the moment, for a deep clean I just remove the wood as a whole and have an entirely empty tank to siphon.

I had galaxy rasbora back in 2008 and they are so beautiful.. But also so expensive and hard to come by in the UK. But I like the idea and will give them some thought! How many would you say? Hatchets are off the cards as it's an open tank (I should have said)

I love the wood too, thank you. I brought it because it looks like a submerged tree stump with root system :)

I've been toying with the idea of adding a floating plant like frog bit - especially as I view this open top tank from the top a lot. I was just concerned about the surface movement and skimmer - plus light getting through to the anubias below.

Like the fish suggestions.

could go S.E.A. with it and do khuli loaches, hillstream loaches, gobies/dwarf gourami/badis(centerpiece), and some rasbora.
khulis would go crazy in a tall tank like that

Khuli loaches are a massive old favourite of mine - so entertaining to watch in the evening! And the hilstream loaches would perform the same role as the otos I'm my first suggestion. Like it!
