Ow, the parrot thing seems the worst!

dr_sudz, don't always assume the worst.

well I go with what my gut tells me. Now the other thing I was thinking was that a rival store may have gone in and done this. I don't know it just doesn't strike me as a regular just break in and steal type job. It had to be done by someone who actually knew what they were looking for, or at least doing, and the smashing of tanks and throwing the bird seems to be personal. And personal can even be that they are loosing money because they are in financial crisis due to sales going down, or who knows what and in a fit of rage distroyed there own place. or another LFS was loosing money and needed to increase sales of their own.

this disgusts me, as do most of the comments in this thread

Maybe the "stolen", "most expensive" fish, never even existed in the first place. Just on paper for insurance reasons. Seems wierd that people that were smashing up the store would take the extra time it would take to steal a bunch of fish.

Insurance fraud

Highly unlikely, if it was I would have said 100 expensive fish instead of 2 dozen. Also the store was not even a year old. The Store parrot is an indicator that they didn't do it. They could have just vandalized the tanks and left the bird alone. He's been in the biz for over 20 years so highly unlikely he did it. Most likely a bad neighbourhood welcoming him.

Even more odd that they did so much damage putting them at risk, but hey, it still more believable than the owner doing it. I like to believe people are innocent until proven guilty. At least when something horrible happens to me I hate to see people start to question my integrity, especially when they don't know me.

I have seen people do some strange things sometimes. Anyone remember the DC snipper? I remember telling my wife that it would be a great way to eliminate a specific target by killing off some randoms, first and a few after then just stopping and disappering. Apperently I was right about that one too, but they caught the SOB before he hit his desired target, the ex wife.

x2

I think it's a good idea at the least. Maybe someone could come across the stolen fish. I'd rather give the owners the benefit of the doubt and not treat this as a fraud.

Just an added note but I've driven past this store a number of times but didn't realize it till I looked it up on Google maps and I have to say this isn't the best part of town to have a store not the worst but definitely not the best I guess you could describe it as on the borderline of an ok neighborhood and a bad one. The store was closer to Akron University campus until the university bought the property for the new Zips stadium. Hopefully either myself or someone else can post a happy ending like person(s) arrested in Fish store burglary/vandalism soon.
