when I had a pleco it wouldn't touch fresh stuff it had to be soft for it to eat it.

I suppose it would go for the fresh stuff eventually if i left it in for a few days to soften up(but by then i guess its not fresh).

blanched zuchini was its favorite

ok I guess im outta this thread. But anyway... I am feeding him TOP FIN algae thins and he eats the cichlid pellets I feed the Oscar, and he would eat the blood worms I also fed the Oscar, but money has been tight lately so I haven't had blood worms in a while. However, he did just recently sucked the snail out of his shell and ate him. I tried to put him in there a couple weeks ago, figured it would happen but I tried it anyway. But I will start feeding him some veggies though. What kind would be best to feed him? Also I thought he was eating enough and was very healthy. I think he is about 6 years old and pushing 15 or so inches

I have heard that too. But it came from some one that I didnt know if they knew what they were talking about or not. I have heard that after they get kinda big they dont really eat algae anymore. They get "lazy".

They might not eat much algae as adults, but they do need veggies.
I don't think you really need to seperate them, as long as you feed the plec, and have food in there for it most of the time.

So I haven't had a chance to get some veggies yet. Hopefully Ill have time tonight. But I did throw a couple of pieces of turkey lunch meat in there just to see if they would eat it. And to no surprise they LOVED IT!!! haha I just threw it in there because y'all said that they need meat from time to time.

That's funny!

Probably not good for him in the long run, but clearly it was a good diversion today.

Just leave 2 quarters of cucumber in there every day (they're like 68 cents for a whole one). Then on opposite days put in stuff like quarter of a carrot, zucchini, stuff like that. You don't have to blanch them 1st, plecs eat wood, veggies don't slow them down. Try that and if it doesn't work I'd separate them. If the Oscar nibbles on the veggies all the better-they're great for him, too.
