I think I am pulling us off topic. You and I agree on the whole issue.

If "strains" become popular like what a lot of people in this thread are predicting. Keepers like you and I will simply have to work together to keep the fish we like available to the hobby. As well as making sure that we keep multiple breeding pairs and trade stock periodically with people working with the same species/location variant.

I hope to have another 50 years of fish keeping in me. I want to have the option to keep the fish I like regardless of what other people are doing, and regardless of the political situation of the countries my fish come from.

Idk I'm all over the board on this one. I would personally consider the diablo and the gorillus to be strains. Unless I'm mistaken, these fish have specific, heritable traits that make them unique. I still stand by the fact that it's wrong to simply call gorillus a subspecies - that taxonomic term has specific requirements and must be upheld by the scientific community. Even if you believe it to be a subspecies you can't just call it that.

But when it comes to the "Imperial Festae" I felt differently. These are very nice fish, but do not to seem to have any traits that are unique from the general population. Some fish are just naturally prettier than others, just like people. If they had a blue face or something then I think that would warrant a strain name!

I agree with most of what you said, the diablo fish I am not sure of though, there are no adults yet or none that he has shown, personally I think you need a few adult specimens before labeling it as a new strain.

A little gangster rap, dedicated to Og fish gangster jazzy Jeff rapps, brought to you by the fake name crew.

Yo yo were the oriqua crew
Making up names is what we do.
Me and my posse we breed fish
We invent a new name so please don't diss

Yo Jeff rapps is a real Og
We buy fish, with province from he.
Then we mix them up and sell them on
With a new daft name then think we're the bomb
.
To all you haters, don't like what we do
We put the smack down and burn on you.
Imperial, diablo and black voodoo
Just some of the names we invented for you.

Please don't diss or criticise
Me and my crew, just might cry.
We will come back with a verse for thee
Just don't expect any apostrophes.

We put the smack down with BF and BlesOne.
We three g's sit round the bong.
We get bombed out, then we start to think
of another daft name, you all think stinks.

Lol! How long did it take you to come up with this?

Fair. I wasn't aware that there were no adult progeny yet.

You've all made your points, this topic has run it's course. Some points have been articulated well in a non-aggressive manner on both sides and for those who took this approach, thank you.

For those who could not keep a conversation civil, please note that we have zero tolerance of abusive behavior towards members, for any reason, on either side of any argument.. If any members take an abusive approach with other members I will remove said membership on the spot. We are done with infractions and warnings on this. I have been more than patient with members on this and have removed membership for less. From here forward I remove membership without question from anyone attacking other members. It does not matter which side of the argument a member represents. If you don't like a name someone applied to their fish, please just move on. It's not worth dealing with people who are just looking for and causing a fight. Please don't put yourself in a position to be removed. That is the last thing we want in an already dwindling hobby.

My best advice would be to let it go and get back to enjoying this great hobby. We are all adults in the same hobby and it would be great if we could behave like it towards one another. Have a nice day and thanks again to the adults who continue to represent themselves as such.
