It's complete and utter idiocy and one of the reasons a lot of serious, knowledgeable aquarists don't come to the site anymore.
Oh please... These guys have just started posted again within the last six weeks. You must be trolling to blame them for the lack of "serious, knowledgeable aquarist."
These guys are serious, knowledgeable aquarists.
If you want to blame a lack of knowledgeable keepers here you can blame the "warm welcome" these guys received.
All they did was post some pictures of fish they've breed and what they call them and they get their heads bit off. And they're the "fools". Then they become the bad guys when the defend themselves.
Seriously, if you guys knew the collective experience these guys have, you'd shut your mouths and just let them post.

Umm... I think he was trying to say the same thing as you... That's the problem with writer word; it can be taken anyway you read it, which is what really started this mess in the first place...

It's so frustrating to see you guys attack them because I know they have more experience with more fish than a lot of people here.

I feel you, personally I don't feel like I "attacked" anyone. On the contrary I've tried to stay neutral. But I've seen it on both sides. From the "regulars" and from "them".

Oh. I can see that now. If that's the case, sorry mr. Pike. All I've seen is people bashing these guys in their threads. And now there's a thread to bash them.
I'm just frustrated with it.

It is frustrating. But again, it's coming from both sides (at least that's how I see it). There is harassment on the treads, but it's also met by word of "you're lame" and "shut up", which only adds fuel to the fire.

To the point of the topic (though it may have underlying meaning given current circumstances), I'm of the opinion that you can call it what you want, it doesn't mean other people have to accept it.

Well, I meant bringing 'strains' into this hobby in general and it has no place. I haven't bashed them on their threads, I haven't posted on them. It is painful and frustrating to see mixing locations in this day and age when it is getting harder and harder to find pure examples of it, but still isn't worth saying so on those threads anymore. You won't convince people on a random fish thread after all so it's not worth the drama and effort to post.

I was talking over the course of time since I've been here though. It has steadily declined and a lot of the 'fads' are a major reason for it.

I won't say they aren't serious about what they are doing, but much like hybrids I don't think it has a place in the hobby. This type of thing is exactly what we were fearful of 30 years ago in the hobby would happen if it were encouraged.

I don't think true cichlid enthusiast's would want to cloud or confuse the hobby anymore than it already is.Adding these pretentious narcissistic names is just trying to put themselves on a pedestal.
I also think taking two fish of the same species with different catch location and then crossing them and calling it a name of your own, is more irresponsible than the guy who sells on hybrids.
These are not people who love cichlids.
They are just profiteering off a gimmick that can do the hobby no good.
Ehh, you state that these people know their stuff.
BastardFish slated Dans biffa saying it was a crappy pale pink shop bought biffa or something like that.
It's actually an f1 with catch location. This so called expert could not recognise that and bifasciatus is one of the species he work's with.
Good eye eh?
I won't be commenting on any of their threads anymore because they act like hormonal school girls when questioned.
Imperial, diablo ha haha its pathetic.

I agree with the above, also you cannot post a pic of a juvenile fish and say it's a new strain, to claim a new strain you need multiple mature adults of that strain all showing the same qualitys that your claiming, once you have done this you can start debating if it's ethical or not.

I cant believe all this. If you have 2 say, Geophagus sp. Tapajo and you breed them by all means its is a Tapajo. Making your own strains is ridiculous IMO
