My new male jag has been acting stra ge since yesterday, staying near the bottom, not active, headstanding at times, breathing is normal, all other tankmates are fine, water params are; ammonia 0, nitrites 0, nitrates 5, I did a 40% water change, left more space at the top of the tank to increase oxygen, not sure what the problem is, he was active before yesterday. uploadfromtaptalk1392991153604.jpguploadfromtaptalk1392991172545.jpg

I agree stressed. How long have you had him? Jags a re mean nasty fish to tank mates but I am finding more and more they are scaredy cats and stress out when in new environments.

When you add new fish I always advice shutting lights off for the first day or so, BUT ESPECIALLY DURING INTRODUCTION. Bright lights can be extra stressful when new to a tank.

When did you introduce him to the tank. How did you acclamate him? Is there a big differance between your Ph and the Ph of the water he came from?

Got him and the female on Sunday, the female is fine and active, only other fish is a gar that pays no attention to either of them.I have a circulation pump I also turned that off.

Do you have any hides for them? Even adult Jags need something to hide under or behind

Just keep an eye on him. It is possibile it could be a swim bladder issue. If you driped him in the water shouldn't be an issue. If he doesn't improve in a day or so let us know. Buy some Meth blue to keep on hand just in case. It's also possibile he's just sluking and getting used to the new digs so wait and see.
