Strange jag behavior,

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Just for the sake of murphy's law I wouldn't rule out a health problem. However from my experience these guys are drama queens. My guess would be he's a little stressed and pouting. Now just from the pics it looks like you don't have that much cover. All mine liked to have one big hideout (like driftwood) then a few plants to go swim in between. Once he gets comfortable he will dig his own trenches to hide in.

Now once they reached 12"+ they would cruise more in the open. Just my experience.

Ahh ok thanks for the advice everyone, will pick up some more plants as well.I saw the female doing a little digging before I left for work this morning, she seems to be more comfortable than the male.here's a full tank shotuploadfromtaptalk1393018151384.jpg

I'd say it has more to do with him being new than the lack of hiding spots, your tank doesn't look bare by any means. For a Jag that size you're definitely going to want to leave more swimming space than anything with maybe 1 good hiding spot on each end for each fish to go to when they feel the need to hide. I'd just add 1 more large piece of driftwood to the right side of your tank, move the smaller plants towards the middle and you should have more than enough cover for them... here's my 10" male jags 125g for comparison

Good news this morning, woke up and turned on a table lamp at the far side of the room to give just enough light to see what was going on in the tank, and was met at the front glass by the male jag, a lot of activity this morning,a little bit of him chasing the female, threw a few pellets in the tank he gobbled them up, his dorsal fin is now spread instead of clamped as well,I will keep the tank lights off today and maybe part of tomorrow, and get one more piece of driftwood tomorrow.alas work once again gets in the way of the important things in life. Thanks again for all the help everyone

This morning I moved my lights to the back of the tank and laid it across the top of my 2 h.o.b. filters, and turned it on, doesn't seem to bother the jags, definitely subdued the lighting a lot,I will keep the lighting set up like this for a couple days before I go back to the normal set up, once my lfs is open i will be going for more driftwood.they've done quite a bit of redecorating since the light has been off.uploadfromtaptalk1393161238096.jpg

Nice! Seems he's settled in now.

I guess you could say he's settled in, my new driftwood is boiling, so I was scaping my plants and he decided to taste my hand, starting to act a little more ornery. Yup he's a jag, haha
