I was looking in my tank today and noticed a good amount of little snails in my tank?!!? Nothing new to the tank I can think of

Did you add anything in the past few months? Anything from another tank? Do you use nets between tanks? Anything you can think of no matter how small.

Only thing honestly would be I got a 12" polypterus about a month ago, other then that just a 7"red tail payara, 14" florida gar, and a "15-17" pleco. No added decor, frequent water changes, common feedings such as krill, tilapia, silversides all of witch frozen. So I guess it's from the polypterus. How do I get rid of these damn things theres abunch of them ugh ??

Think back at least a month.
Snail eggs can sneak in if you add plants or decorations from another tank and you will not see anything for a few weeks because they are so tiny.
Edit: disregard. You already answered

I would get a head of lettuce or cabbage and each night take a leaf off, stab it with a fork, put it in the tank, then in the morning you dispose of the now (hopefully) snail covered vegetation.

Snails can hitch rides on fish (especially sedentary types).
All it takes is one of those little Malay live bearing snails and in a few months they are everywhere.
I happen to like them though, they constantly rummage thru the substrate, keeping it from going anoxic, and help break down detritus.
I don't know where mine came from either.

So these snails in my tank aren't harmful to my tank or pose a threat to things in my tank? I mean if they are beneficial I might let them hang out for a little while I guess. But longterm to wipe em out would be lettuce and a loach from what I'm gathering. The only thing is with the loach I'd be afraid my gar would take a dabble and my ornate polypterus would probably as well

Post a picture of the snails for identification if you will. I'd say they are most likely more helpful than any harm they might make. Don't overfeed and they won't over populate the tank. I prefer assassin snails to loaches for snail removal.

What kind of snails? Can you post a picture?
Most snails are harmless feeding on detritus and algae.
Usually people just don’t like them because they anticipate some sort of problem. Or they could feed on their plants.
I keep pond snails aka bladder snails on purpose for the loaches to snack on.

Hmmm snails to fight off snails. Do these assassin snails get a little crazy to as far as population?
