Strange snails out of no where???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Then that actually sounds kind of cool!! I notice they are feeding on the left over meats as well. That's actually kind of cool as well. Little less food waste now
Yes! Most snails are beneficial. If you don't have plants even more are. Some snails will eat anything including plants bit other then that they help your aquarium more then hurt.

Yep I use assassin snails to get rid of pest snails. So now I only have a few assassins.

Except for my 120g. I recently brought in these mini ramshorns (seriously the adult size of a sesame seed). They are easily squished and my angels love to eat them. I have one gold pearlscale in particular that follows my fingers around when they are in a pinching motion and nips at my fingers. Good free live food. But they only eat if I squish.

I'm glad they are growing on you. If you avoid overfeeding, you can keep the numbers down and they don't get too out of control. Pond and bladder snails are one of the most prolific types of common freshwater snails in aquaria, but if you can handle them I don't mind having them around to clean and as fish food.

Indeed, bladder snails (Physa or Physella sp. (Physidae)).
Not harmful but can become too abundant.
Clown loaches will eat them up in no time. In fact, many true loaches (not 'hillstrean loaches').

Can confirm assassins wont 'boom' in population, I am actively breeding them and it is a very slow turn around. Worth adding one to three assassins to control pond snails populations as they can sky rocket with a bit of over feeding.

Also as assassins age they are one of the better looking freshwater snails imo.

I have 3 assassins snails and have yet to see more after maybe 6mo. I also have 3 yoyo loaches and a candy stripe loach that all eat snails. The loaches are about 3.5in.

I've never really been one for a snail. But that Is a good looking snail haha. I might let these guys hang around for awhile. And if It looks like they are adding up to much I'll do the lettuce thing to hopefully bring down numbers. And in the end if I want to eradicate, I wouldnt mind having some assassin snails.
I appreciate all the info guys thank you so much
