IF its going to be an indoor cat you really only need to get the first shots and your alright, if you are close to farm area, call a farmer and see if they nuture their sheep/goats/ect. They can do it quick and prob cheaper then the vet, tho males are much cheaper then females to fix. A good tip on keeping fleas down to nil, is get yourself some brewers yeast from the bulk food store and put a tablespoon of the stuff on the cats food every day, the cat will be extremely healthy. We always got outdoor barn cats when I was growing up and my mom put the cats on this diet and rarely had any issues of fleas ever and they were outdoor cats! Train the cat right from the begining, don't let it scratch your furniture, get a scratching post and show it to them. Don't let them get up anywhere you don't want them chase them off spray with water, it takes a few weeks but you will be thankful you did it in the long run. And get a litter box and drop the cat in it and walk away it will go there to crap and pee once it knows where it is. Other then that just be good to the cat or you will make it go crazy.

Better get it spayed or neutered...and hope its not a male. Really sucks when they decide to scent mark the place!! Cat pee is probably one of the most annoying smells in the world...and a pain to get off. I don't envy you my man, as they can be a headache...stick to fishies! lol

Not all males mark their territory at least not when neutered. I had a male who I got because his mother ran off and got pregnent/then came back and he was about the nicest cat ever. Best personality you could ever want, but it was because I messed with him all the time instead of leaving him be. Never marked his territory, lived with other cats/dogs, and never scratched anything really except for his cardboard scratch thing, though again he was neutered. And was great with dogs and couldn't care about fish.

Died in the middle of the night for unknown reasons.

That sucks, sorry you lost your cat. Male cats are great but ya get them neutered and play with them show them affection. People think cats are very independent, but they really do like to be around people especially when there is only one of them.

I have heard that they do not live in fish tanks, and they tend to need to be fed...
you could try the fish tank but i dont think theres any filter that can handle those kind of bio load
