Stray voltage causing issues in tanks!

Does size matter with grounding probes?

All of the LFS and my Bangkok-based online shops here didn't have a clue what a ground probe was, had never heard of them. However one shop (that also sells SW accessories, kind of rare here), did have some, but without the proper male plug on the end. I ordered 3 thinking I could take to electric shop and they could put on a male plug.

The probes came today but I was surprised by how small they are -- like for a nano tank or something -- are these too small for bigger tanks like 325 or 375's or are they ok? Not only are the titanium probes small but the black connecting wires also seem smaller compared to pix of other ground probes I see online.

Thx, yes it does from your pic -- I'm half tempted to send 'em back and see how they're actually making those into ground probes, but would rather buy the real thing already done properly, sometimes locals take short-cuts etc. that I'm not willing to take.

Btw, I wonder if you can find proper ground probes at Singapore LFS? I did a bit of looking around on Alibaba and couldn't find any, which was kinda surprising, you'd think even the more well known brands like 'Rid-Volt' were made there but I couldn't find anything, plz let me know if you by chance do.

Yep that's all I could find on Lazada too :( -- and shipping from USA just about triples the price (even without possible customs charges).

After checking my tanks and sumps, I don't find any more voltage issues. A few millivolts so far.

But, before I took out the old Aqua Clear 50 (sorry, not Aqueon...) powerhead I had 11vac leakage.

Now it's in the 1~10 millivolt range so it was leaking 1000x more than now.

That powerhead was at least 13 years old, and the plastic just starts to break down with age and exposure.

hey folks i am new to this site but have had a crises in my tank I have had 15 fish die in my tank in the last 24 hours When i put my hand in the water there was an initial shock .... then when trying to unplug every thing my foot touched a metal floor plate an it almost knocked me down. I read earlier that electricity could not kill fish because they were not grounded. This tank set up is about 8 yrs old

I use separate gfci power strips for each tank. Replace my heaters every other year even if they appear to be fine. But even thats no help if your heaters are exposed in the display tank. If you have big, curious fish like cichlids they will inevitably try to nibble, mangle, or mate with it, potentially damaging the heater.
