You shouldnt be rinsing your filter out every 2 weeks, neither should you need to.

Depending on the type of filter and what pieces he's rinsing. I rinse my filter pads at least weekly, for example.

adding bio media can cause cloudy water. u add a brand new filter lately?

if its algae then a uv light will take care of it.... the reason why i ask what the paramaters are is because everyone always says there is at 0, I have never had my tanks ever at 0, my nitrites are always at about 30ppm. No one ever admits they have high readings or they dont know how to actually take them.

u mean nitrate right?

i had the same problem. it sounds to me like an algea bloom. my 120 did the exact same thing. i bout some algeafix by api and it did the trick

I wouldnt trust that with rays......

my nirates never get over 5.0 or 10.0.. you sure your at 30..? seems kinda high.. im at 5.0 right now i gues your right i shouldnt say 0. but the rest is so dang close to 0..

so i jus got home from the pet store.. i picked up this stuff called algae destroyer advanced.. says its for freshwater containing live plants an fish.. has anyone used or heard of this being ok or bad....???

also picked up some fluval biomax so i can rinse out the sponges in my filter as much as i prefer without killing off the beneficial bacteria..

Chemicals and rays.... = bad news, if you have more then one filter just clean one filter at a time and you will be fine and yes im sure mine are/ get that high rays create a lot of waste.... expecally when they are 24+ inches

Nitrates aren't as dangerous as nitrite or ammonia. Rays have been know to do well in 200 ppm Nitrates and breed . Are sure it is an algae bloom and not a cycling issue?
