After a short break from the hobby I'm back at square one. So a few days ago I picked up a 15 to grow out and possiblly breed a black and Pearl convict hrp pair. I decided to get them fairly small but young adults. The male is 2" and the female is 1.5" . I want to try for calicoes since their pretty rare in my area and the only member I know who has some hasn't been on in months. So I figured I try to create some myself. This would be the first brood for both parents.

I will upload pics of the pair shortly.

well i did a small water change and put a mirror on the side of the tank to help them bond . at first the male was chasing the female around but once the mirror was added he quickly noticed it and went in attack mode. after about 15 minutes she joined in and they have been doing it since then. they seem to be preping for spawning so tomorrow when i come home from work im going to do another 5 gal cold water change. hopefully i get the first spawn soon. all the water parameters are perfect for spawning conditions. so we shall see.

this morning they seem to be ready for spawning the males bars have become darker. he is also trying to test the smaller female but i guess cause of their size difference she seems a little skeptical about it. they do alot of tail wacking and dancing around but havent lip locked yet nor tested each others strength. im not sure if its the size difference that they dont want to try. i made this short video since they dont stay still long enough for good pics. sorry if it isnt good quality i recorded it with my cell.

I know this is kinda pointless since only one person besides myself has shown interest in my project. I guess ill ask anyways. Will feeding bloodworms and brine shrimp help prep them for breeding? I tried it last time I successfully breed my convicts but haven't tried with this pair.

I think so I used both as prep for breeding on multiple cichlid species before
