The fish is only $6 something in the store. Ocala is, let me see, maybe two hours? Merritt Island is a stones throw away from Cape Canaveral. (from my picture can you tell what sex it is?) It came in a batch of pink convicts. This one is the last one from that batch, none of the others had any black markings. I do want it. I have no where to put it. One unheated outdoor tank where some semi-albino White Clouds reside. Maybe White Clouds would make good Convict food??? hmmm. John/Mr.Fishy, let me know if you intend to drive out to get him. I will have the owner hold the fish and won't buy it myself. If you have not said so one way or the other in a few days I might just go ahead and get it but want to give first chance to someone doing a convict project rather than me holding on to it just in case.

That's way to far for me lol won't be going up to Ocala any time soon and that's a long drive for one fish besides I can't even drive yet lol

I thinl I've been to that fish store with my dad when we lived in palm bay. For $6 why not. Hybrid or not its still a nice fish.

I guess I will pick him up today then and put a heater in that extra tank that's running outside. Maybe throw a few cheap regular convicts in with him/her to see the reaction and to be able to tell which sex it is. How knows, maybe, if it's really a hybrid already, I will breed it to one of my EBJDs and then breed back and make mini-EB-hybrids.

Now an eb convict would be cool

I went and got her. In the store I asked the owner if I could put him/her in with some regular convicts that were in another tank to see if she was sequestered because of excessive aggression or an inability to defend himself/herself. She brightened right up. I still can't tell her sex, though some of the red spangles did appear on her belly while in with the others of her species. When I got home, I put her in my main 150 gallon tank and promptly went to Wal-Mart for junkfood. When I got back, I could not believe how red/orange she had gotten. Especially in her fins. HOW NORMAL IS THIS IN A PINK CONVICT? (The reddish fins) She even has a thin band of blue on her dorsal and anal fins. Her caudal fin is the reddest of all her fins. Now I need to start looking at pink convict and HRP pictures to see just how red a pink convict is supposed to be able to get without HRP DNA being mixed in. And YES, Doomiedee, I think Pink Marbled Electric Blue Convict-Dempsey Hybrids are in the future... (and possibly even Convict-Thai-Silk Flowerhorn hybrids or Convict/EBJD/TSFlowerhorn Hybrids!) At any rate, I like her. I never thought I'd keep a Convict. Always looked down my nose at beginner fish. Maybe the end resulting hybrids will be able to tolerate the Electric Blue Gene without being as delicate as the Jack Dempseys are when they have it. (And YES, before you ask, I know, get pictures. I will after a few days of letting her settle in.)

Put it with 2 males and 2 females. That way you have about a 50% of it pairing up with the opposite sex. I know some hrps have heavy reddish orange in their fins so it might be an hrp x ? Hybrid. The way it looks in the pic its got black belt genes in it.

OK, so 1.) what's a black belt? and 2.) it's in with all my EBJDs and Thai-Silk FH. If one of them want's to mate with him I will allow it. He does seem to make the tank inhabitants more lively. And so far no serious fin ripping agression. Eventually if or when I see good marbled pink Convicts or nice H. Red Points, I will pic them up and start a separate tank. I had no idea HRPs where so blue until I went on a picture hunt. They would be a wonderful candidate for the EB x Thai-Silk breeding project, to miniaturize one of the breeding lines for folks who had smaller tanks and did not mind hybrids. I will keep you all updated on this thread!

A black belt is a veija cichlid I believe. I could be wrong. Google it your bound to find pics. Yeah hrps are like really blue and orange convicts. Jeff Rapps has some nice Rio danli hrps.
