No problem i will.

I think the calico mother played a big part in your success. Since she already had the marble gene it pretty much passed on to the fry. I think my pair would have taken multiple generations to achieve marbled cons.

Not really because my female only has a couple of blotches on her, and it wouldnt have took you long to get marbles because the marble gene is dominate so you would have had marbles in this batch. The marble gene has to be dominate if i bred my marble x HRP and i made more marbles.

That's my point my female wasn't marbled at all. Yours already had the gene and passed on to make it dominant.

Im pretty sure you have to have the gene yo produce marbles, you cant just make marbles one of the parents has to have the gene.

Yeah I think so. I don't think my pair would have produced any marbles.

black belts are old lady (vieja) cichlids. completely different genus and fish.

the five convict like cichlids including cons are

Amatitlania coatepeque- Restricted to Lake Coatepeque, El Salvador.
Amatitlania kanna- Ranging from the very Southeast of Costa Rica to Panama.
Amatitlania nigrofasciata- Ranging from Southern Guatemala to Northern Honduras.
Amatitlania siquia- Ranging from Honduras to Costa Rica.
Amatitlania sp. “honduran red point”- Endemic to the Rio Danli, Honduras

Been loooking at all the pictures via Google of these species you quoted. I noticed how red the tails and points of A. siquia are. Even more red than the Red Points. My male Pink Marble Convict's tail is getting redder and redder as each day passes. Who knows how many different "convict genus" fish have been bred into the current Convicts available at LFSs. I bet siquia was added for color at some point in his past since his tail and unpaired fin's points match the sequia more than they match that of the HRP's. They are probably as mixed as Flowerhorns. Those Florida Fish Farmers as well as Asian fish breeders will do anything and breed any way to get more color and make more sales. I think modern convicts are a clear demonstration of that motivation. You'd just about have to get a wild caught with point of origin guarantees to know for sure you have a true Convict. WHO EVER THOUGHT BREEDING CONVICTS WOULD BECOME FUN? I certainly never thought I'D be doing it.

Who would think they would be such good parents? I knew the moment that the parents would let the babies would get to free swimming that these parents were awesome and did i mention that they are only an inch long? lol

I have bred some that were half an inch long...........

Well i always loved it but now that there are more color mutations that makes it even better.

+1 convicts got me into fish keeping as a hobby and was the first fish I've ever bred. I believe breeders and farmers do breed the five together for more colors. Being that they all look so close to each other that they can't tell differences and cross breed them.

I shouldnt even entertain this comment but im going to because even tho convicts are easy to breed they still dont breed at an half inch. I have been breeding and experimenting with convicts for 15years on and off so i know they dont breed at an half inch.
