STRONG filter for MESSY turtle tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
hey vicious, I usually see the feces the day after the feeding...am I not feeding him enough?
and when books talk about turtle length; for example the Sonora Mud Turtle is supposed to be at 17.5cm as an adult. Is this the shell length or when his neck/legs are stretched out?

Well at the moment, my baby stinkpot is growing so I feed him and syphen waste out everyday. You should be feeding your turtle 2-3 times a week because it's an adult. Just suck out the poop when you see it.

17.5cm would be the length of the shell.

Your K. sonoriense might be a male, so he won't grow to the maximum length listed. In some members of the mud turtle family, males are the bigger of the two sexes, but not in this case.

oh so he actually is a sonoriense?! that's great.
if he is a sonora, yeah he is a male because he has a hook on the tip of his tail.

thanks vicious for clearing it up..some people were saying it was other than a sonora.
so you think he's already an adult? mud turtles in general live up to 40years old right? what about sonoras; how old do you think Cola is?

I couldn't tell you how old he is, I'd say at least 10 years old +. If you say he has a sharp hook on the tip of his tail, then he is a male.

here my input on this one...i do 90% water changes two times a week (i would do 100% but some fish are thriveing with the turts) i when i do water changes i soak my bio media in the tank as the water goes down and when i fill i let the ne fresh water run over it once the tank is filled then i put the media back to appropriate filters...most turts like calmer waters so to strong of a current may discourage them from the swimming, if you feel the current is to strong redecorate your tank with obsticales (small part of basking platform, fake plants, rocks?, what ever you want) so the filter waterfalls into the obstacles and becomes more like drops hitting the water rather then a small stream flowing into the tank...the drops will break the surface of the water but their will be minimum to no current in the actual body of water...sorry if any of this was already stated i didnt feel like reading the two pages...hope that helps

ps. i liked that shell shot with the measureing tape...try to take photos with him in his habitat for us to enjoy...

It's not that sharp...kinda smoothish.
do female sonoras have any nails or hooks at all? if not, then he is a male

vicedretard..thanks, I don't know if I can do that much water changes..so it's safe to put the media on the tank bottom? I mean, it won't release anything bad?
and HE HAS SHELLROT????
