ok thanks.
and about the age, are you saying 10years because of his size?

i heard that some vet said you can tell by looking at the shell..if it's worn out or not. and i guess they have like growth rings like trees..is that true?

and i think my turtle's shell is all worn out because he was living in mercury water and I guess the owner who released him didn't expose him to any UVB sources or so..

oh, and how do you know so much about the sonora mud turtle too?! hands on experience? or any good books/sites you can recommened to me?

Poor health can make a turtle look older than it really is. He might have been in bad shape when he was released or he could be just old. You can count rings on a turtle's shell but it isn't that accurate.

I don't know much about that species of mud turtle, just from what I've read in the past. But I did have a breeding pair of Eastern Mud Turtles, Kinosternon subrubrum subrubrum at one time. Both species are pretty similar in care and looks.

are they gonna be on the individual scutes? so one ring for one year?
lol, his shell is too dirty currently..wierd yellow stuff are trying to peel off.

i'll check out the eastern mud right now!
hey i just found a picture on wikipedia..it looks so much like Cola..except for the shell.
the striped mud turtle has the fleshy thing on their chin(like Cola) but lack the markings on his face..

vicious, if you say he's a sonora..then he is!

I thought you said he was a Sonoran to begin with, lol!? Didn't you say some department of fish & game guy or whatever, told you that is what type of turtle you had? I've never really seen a whole shot of him. Why don't you take a few photos of him so we can be certain. The best place is outdoors on a sunny day so we can see his colors in natural sunlight. Some under water shots of him in his tank will be nice too.

haha yeah that's what I thought..but then I had people all over the world tell me that he was a different type of mud..
one said a giant mexican musk..but that's not it fr-sure.lol

actually, I was the one that told the DFG that he's a Sonora..that's why they let me keep him.. I don't know what the law would be if Cola was a different species..

I have some photos on my photobucket..i'll come back tomorrow

You know, the more I look at those photos the more I think he might be a Mexican Mud Turtle! I don't really know a whole lot about either species so don't take my word on it. It's hard to tell where an animal might have came from when it's out of it's home range and looks similar to other species. We'll figure it out sooner or later.

Well hopefuly I get to know soon!..they look so alike..I mean i googled both but there aren't many resources/pictures of them..

In some pictures sonora looks like Cola, then another it looks like a k. integrum..

i did send a e-mail to the "turtle's of the world"
i'l try to get an account for some turtle forums..
