The Land where Fish Rule!
Does anyone know of any fish that are able to produce electric current and which is able to produce the strongest current? I know it is most likely the electric eel, but see as I don't know how to aquire one of those (does anybody know?) what is the next best thing? So far I have thought of electric eel, electric catfish, and black ghost knife. Anyone know any others? One last question, Do all knife fish have this capability or just the black ghost? I am looking aquire the fish able to produce the most current for a research experiment. Thanks!

Elephant nose fish do, but as far as which makes the strongest electrical current have no idea. I'm sure someone else will chime in.

I believe the top 3 contenders are as follows:

Electric Eel: up to 600 volts
Electric Catfish: up to 350 volts
Electric Ray: up to 220 volts

Additionally the amps cap out at 1.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe these are correct.

Oh also the electric eel is technically a knife fish

Totally, amps matter way more then volts.

Ok thanks guys. It seems like everyone agrees on the rankings so three more questions: Is there anyway that you guys know of to aquire an electric eel? Around how much of the 350 volts would a 5 in electric catfish produce? Does the electric eel and catfish use electricity to navigate and communicate as a knife fish does or is it strictly offensive and deffensive?

that can produce the same amount when they are small as they can when full grown if I am not mistaken, they just cannot control it as well as juvies, you might get the whole shebang instead of a warning hit. I have seen some on aquabid I think a while back. Might be illegal in the state you are in though.
