Pam Pam Pam
I recently got a good deal i cant refuse on a new tank i was planning on using to keep my polies in, but the damn thing has a blue background. Im in between black or reddish sand from 3m. Anyone have any blue backed tanks that could chime in? Or anyone in general have any opnions? I really want the fish to get the chance to bring their colors out, but I am afraid the blue background might recess that ability.

personally the blue background would break the deal for me regardless of how good it is. i'm honestly not sure how big an effect it would have. maybe you could put another background on the inside? and what species of bichirs do you plan to put in there?

I know what youre saying but a free acrylic tank is always a good thing to not let go here in this area. Tikinso Endlies will be in there. Soon to be joined by congicus and in the future possibly ansorgii.

I feel your pain, I also have a blue background with black gravel right now but need to go with a sand soon for my ray. I was going to go with the black again.

i have a blue black ground ( god i hate it) black or very dark grays or other real dark colors look great with it.... personally i think black is the best...

ya im not a fan for blue unless salt but shoot free i would got it in a heart beat and use it for something. i have always noticed that the blue back shows up same as not haveing any background. for me substarte always darken and colored my fish more than the background. black or a dark red would look cool with blue back ground and some nice plant decor would look cool

I personally avoid blue back tanks, but I have seen some nice setups. It does seem that the blue is pretty neutral once the rest of the decor is together.

if its free, it would be very tempting indeed

if you're not putting another background on the inside and stick with the blue, i would think a black substrate would look better than red.

the endlis i believe would look much better on red substrate. but with a blue background, maybe black substrate would not have as much of a negative effect as with a black background, as the tank would look overall brighter.

i don't think it matters too much for congicus whether you go with red or black. it may get a bit darker on black.

Thanks for the input guys, I will decide whether to slap some black on the back with some silicone in the inside and use red or just keep the blue and tag on black sand..... ill see when i grab the tank on sunday.

the black sand gives a nice contrast.... the blue back ground is bright but the black is dark is you follow what im saying.... it looks good in the end ... wish i had pix but the sand lasted a week in my tank before i went back to barebottom
