LoL like to see the parameters of that mud hole that the electric eels were in the other night on River Monsters.

During the dry season, there are massive fish die-offs along the Amazon from all the pools that dry up and have no fresh water flowing in.

Yes I know this, not sure how my last post confused you. Was that mud hole not a closed body of water?

I was agreeing with you, just adding an additional comment to the conversation that I'm sure in some parts of the amazon during the dry season the water gets pretty nasty.

Sorry, confusion is mine

Interesting tidbit: My Dicrossus maculatus didn't spawn until I slacked on water changes for a bit. Maybe higher nitrates and TDS is actually a spawning trigger for some species?

Interesting, I should bring my test kit along and check the levels in the reservoirs.
But that would have to wait till exams are over first.

electric eel dont breath thru the water dont they?

i dont think electric eels do breathe in the water, im sure they cant be out of the water for too long though. anyway if nitrates are a big enough concern you could always use a phosphate remover. its taken my tank down to 0 from 30 nitrates. its expensive as hell though so i dont use it but i have tried it.
