STUNG BY MY MOTORO!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Atleast you are ok minus some left over pain. Hope you dont have to sell your ray. I always am aware of EXACTLY where my two rays are when I have my hand in the tank. I really dont want to experience that pain.

I can't imagine the pain! 12" ray! Ouch! I got grazed by a 6" retic once and that woke me up a little, I can't imagine how much that must have hurt to go through your thumb!

I fear that one day I will learn the hard way to truly respect my rays and the danger of the stinger! So there is a fragment in your thumb still? We can be buds! I have a piece of Lima catfish spine in my thumb! Docs wouldn't remove it b/c I don't have insurance! Said that if it creates a problem we can revisit the idea!

That sucks tank125, I cant believe they wouldnt take it out, that could lead to a nasty infection. For those who asked, I am 24, and yes I still live with my parents (I am a graduate student with no income, moved back in when I started grad school 20 minutes from my parents place, I know, I know, its sad). Anyways, at first, the guy at the front desk totally paniced because he thought I was gonna die. When I left he looked at me like how the hell are you walking out of here ok?? He actually joked with me that the first thing he thought of was Steve Irwin and he thought I might pass out on the spot. After that they sent me to fast track, and a doctor came right away and stared at me with a puzzled face, left, and came back 10 minutes later with a doctor who used to work at Murtle Beach and had seen stingray stings before, and he knew what to do. We just soaked my hand in hot water, numbed it, and took xrays to see if anything was still in there, and when they saw there was, they went in to get it out. It was only like a small splinter, but it was shooting pain all up my arm. The first doctor was the one who fished around inside my thumb for the remaining pieces of barb, and who cut an artery in my thumb doing so, and she was joking about how I was their first stingray accident. I also tld an older woman about it who was waiting in the bed next to me, and she was so nice and interested about the hobby, saying she had never heard of it before. They actully got it out by irrigating the wound with a rush of water after they had cut it open a little more. Heres a pic of it now, the actual wound is not that bad, it was just the venemous sting all up my arm that was the main problem. Unfortinatley, it looks like I am going to have to sell my ray. Im so pissed, its my first ray and I love it, and yea Im planning on making my own monster tank when I move into my own place in about a year or so, but I wanted to take this ray along with me. My father wants to get rid of it because he said what if one of my younger brothers friends sticks their hand in and gets stung and is allergic or something, and he may have a point, I caught one of them with his hands in there once trying to touch the aro. Anyways, Ill post her in the classifieds soon. Sucks, but gotta respect my fathers wishes, he let me move back in here and helps me out with money now that Im not working and back in school and all, so Id be kind of a dick to say no, Im keeping this in your house even though you dont want it and after all youve done for me... Already starting to think of what to replace her with though... Ill post that on here when the time comes.

See, the actual wound is not that bad. The barb entered from the right puncture would and came out the left one. I was catually lucky it hit where it did and not in a meating part of my hand, or in a part where it just would have stuck in instead of coming through like that, cause that would have been a mess.

Dang man, you are lucky.

Just last night I was algae scrubbing with a sponge and I didnt even notice my 10" male buried right in the sand below me. The way I see it, a sting is painful but not life threatning so nothing to get too worried about.

If you can ship your ray Id love him!

Thanks for the update, how old are your brothers?
