Ok I really hate this guy now!! such a beautiful fish but I cant keep him in my 100g anymore, just too damn aggressive!!! he's only about 3~4" but he has dominated the tank and is even starting to mess with my 10" aro. He's starting to nip his fins too.

Its gotten to the point where no fish, not even bottom feeders, can go on his half of the tank. This morning before work I got fed up when he was terrorizing my silver aro so I took him out and threw him in my 30g.

Has anybody been able to keep these guys in a community tank w/o problems? Or is this one of those fish that needs a tank of his own? How do you guys deal with the evil Carpintis??

Carpintis start to be angy when there are Carpintis females in a tank.
without females are lambs.
yeah but there are no other carpintis in there. the only other fish that are even close to being agressive are my gold saum, jack dempsey, and then an IT. all other fish are very calm...

Had a 5" female that was a little nasty, nothing that the others couldn't deal with though.

Sounds like you just got yourself a little badass. You may just have to trade or sell him.

just curious wat sex are all the fish in ur tank, in particular the carpentis/jd. i have a RD that will not eat goldfish and i think i've even seen him defend one against my FH. im pretty new to this forum but have had fish since birth, although feeding my dads tetra's cap'n crunch is barely fish experience, i've been on my own with fish for 10 years now and still learning SO much. GL and can u get pics? i just bought a fish that was labeled a JD but i've been told it could be carpintis or carpinite and some say its a hybrid cause of its unusualy large flower line. lmk via PM

i have a pair around the same size as yours, nothing too bad ever happens. just the occasional chase, but thats it. i have rred jewels and a fh in a 90 with them.

Well I'm not sure what sex the Carpintis is (dont know how to sex these guys) but here's a pic. What do you guys think? Also, here's some pics of the JD and GT. My vote is that both JD and GT are male.

Usually the fights have been between the GT and Carpintis but nothing serious. And the JD stays out of the drama. Lately though, the Carpintis started messing with my defenseless aro and I cant deal with seeing ragged fins on my silver aro!!! :nilly:

I have two 4" Carpintis in a 253 gallon CA/SA community tank setup with no problems yet. They're tankmates are 8 other CA/SA's. I'm hoping that by growing them out along with other same size cichlids, they (and the others) will get used to having tankmates and just establish a pecking order oppossed to outright killer instinct.
