Ok peeps. Lets hear the coupe de gras story about how a customer did something stupid or a store owner told you something that was SO BS you had to wear boots walking thru there store.

I've seen a british bulldog with lipstick, roughe, and a tampon shoved up its butt. Old people suck!

Howdy,

I once got a few fish and shrimps (sounds like a restaurant order ...). Anyhow, the lady wanted to sell me ich treatment ... "all fish have ich - you'll have to use it" .... well, let me think about this: It's a copper-based medication and I am buying shrimp with my fish. Copper will inevitably harm if not kill invertebrates - including the bag of shrimps on the counter in front of you. She was even upset when I told her! That was the last time I shopped there...

I went to my lfs and there was a new guy, I asked him some questions, but he started to ask me questions like he was the costumer and i was the seller

I get this a lot but we need to realize that in a perfect world all pet shops would have good training but in the real world they don't so I try to at least educate them as best I can...... heck after a year they really listen to what I have to say because I often know a lot more then they do and I have a lot nicer fish then they do in their shops.

So go into the fish world and spread the truth and after a while we may have made a difference.

Something else we can do is to attend and help our local aquarium clubs so that they can do things like set up public desplays and help to educate the public.

If not us then who?

At my favorite lfs, the fish guys are awesome, but the cashier man sucks. When I picked up some cories there, said cashier (who is not allowed in the fish depo for now obvious reasons) made mention that these guys were great algae eaters, and would eat fish waste as well. Scares me to think what other bs he told other customers... :P

WoW I wish they ate poop cause a lot of the people I are full of it!

Yes it is sad to hear what comes out of peoples pie holes.

Walmart and the Petsmart I worked at were very close. I had a couple come in and say that the fish were dieing and they only had then a week..... They wanted to buy more fish to replace the dead ones cuz Wally world kept selling them sick ones. I know your thinking what I was thinking... a few guppies with a precycled tank. I venture on and ask them WHAT they had in the tank. Of coarse names were to hard to remember but luckily for me we had all of them.
3oscars
2pacus
1koi
and 1 Hyposthomus Plecosthomas.
I told them to find the receipt and take them back. I would help them but they would have to do EVERYTHING i said.
The water took daily 50% Water changes for a week to get the ammonia to where I could even read it. Every day they would ask me if they could add fish yet. HOW can you not laugh and cry at these people?

Ha, this woman came into the store and was having a problem with her 10 gallon tank. Her nitrates were at 260 or so  , ammonia at .25 or so. I asked what filter she had and she has a whisper 10 with activated carbon as the only type of filter pad. I told her, meh, replace that crap with a sponge filter, and blah blah, make 50% water changes DAILY until your nitrates go down, etc etc. To make a long story short, as I'm helping this person, my manager comes around and absolutely negates everything i said. Oh, just make a small water change, and a couple weeks later, make another one. Your filter should be fine. blah blah "im fat" and she just kept going on and on.

The next week, this woman comes in, and says she followed my advice. :D

See we can make a differance.... Lets see one person a week for how many years....... I'm going have to live forever

This isn't about stupid customers in fish stores, but just stupid people I know that own fish.

I've given up on helping them, they will not listen.

One has a 20 gallon with a goldfish, pleco, silver dollar,12 misc. tetras, and 2 snails. She called me because she has a lot of algae in her tank and her fish keep dying. She leaves her tank light on 24/7. Changes water once a month. She wanted me to test her water.

I spent a lot of time with her, going over compatible fish, how big plecos, gold fish and silver dollars get, the difference between cold water and tropicals, the importance of a timer for the light, water changes, how scraping the algae off the tank sides is something most hobbiests do, etc. How the fish would appreciate a little decor, other than one plastic plant and a rock. Offered to help her design a tank that would work.

Her response: "So, I should get rid of my big pleco and get a new smaller pleco?" DUH! That one is going to grow too!

The second person had a 10 gallon that she tried to keep a betta in. I gave her a heater and a glass top, fish was always jumping out.

She had lava rock and sea shells for decor. Kept trying to put a female in, cause Wal-mart said it would be OK. Male kept killing his "mate", and she wanted to know why.

She wanted the fish to breed so her kid could see baby fish. For awhile she came to me with questions, but again, never listened, even turned me down when I said I'd re-do her tank FREE, with FREE stuff, make a betta paradise. She called and said the tank was too much work, so she put her betta in a bowl on the TV, but she still has to change the water every week because it smells gross!

WHY DO THESE TYPE OF PEOPLE EVEN HAVE FISH!

Because they "love" animals and want to "help" and "provide" them with a nice home for the rest of their lives. :)

LOL!!!!!

today i tried t oapply for a job at my local fish store, now ive been gonig their since i was 5, anyways. i went their to see if they were hiring and asked , they told me that they werent hiring right now but they said i could sumbit a resume. so i said ok and decided to take a took around the display tanks

EVERY TANK HAD AT LEAST 10 THINGS WRONG WITH IT!!!

the 3 display flowerhorns caught my eye the most

they where adults (with major stunted growth)each in its own 40 gal tanks and look like they werent fed on purpose to save on water changes! AND THESE FISH WERE NOT FOR SALE!!!

omg and the african cichlids where all gasping at the surface

all the tanks looked underfed and in desperate need of water changes

so I turned my head and looked at the like " so you sure you dont wanna hire?
