I was on live aquaria yesterday and found that they had a coral catshark in their Divers Den Section. They said its minimum tank size is 500 gallons and yet they also say that the minimum tank size for a marbled bamboo catshark is 180 gallons even though they are twice as large as the coral cat. I only shop their because their stock is ALWAYS top quality. So is this information true or have they gotten something wrong AGAIN?

They should switch tank sizes. I wouldn't pay that much for a coral cat either. You can find them for 80$ at that size.

Ill admit, sometimes their information disappoints me, but as was mentioned before, their stock is top quality.

I have talked with kevin, and one of his top employees actually used to work for me.

Not a bad store, they do a good job, and everything is healthy before it comes out on the floor. I would feel very confident buying fish from them, plus their guarantee is one of the best in the business. It has NEVER been the duty of the provider to tell you what you need to do with the fish. How many people buy 1-2" rtc's and dont know what they are getting into.

If you are relying on a stores information about the animal you are about to purchase, you shouldnt be buying it to begin with. Do your research first.

I ALWAYS research first

Well sometimes the information that Live Aquaria presents is wrong. But they are right about the species more often than many other online sites I've seen.

And yes - 180 gallons was roughly the minimum for the White-spotted Bamboo (Marble Bamboo)presented in "Aquarium Sharks & Rays". Which is likely were they got that from. As for 500 gallon suggested minimum for Coral Catsharks - that is the more realistic minimum needed to keep a Coral Catshark for life.

Here's the link

IS it just me - or does anyone else think that this is not actually a Coral Catshark(Atelomycterus marmoratus).

From what I saw at the Newport aquarium and examples of Coral Cats, it looks NOTHING like one at all. The patterning is all off and it is lacking the typical white spots of a coral catshark.

That pic isn't a juvie coral cat. I've bred them. I'd say banded coral cat.

And I feel a bit different when it comes to selling. I think it IS the duty of the seller to be aware of what he/she is selling and make sure the future owner is able to care for those animals. I have never sold something or collected something for anyone without have long in depth conversations to make sure they can handle the life that are about to take into their care.

Yeah same with what everyone has said, stock top quality, tank size off for mainly the shark and rays only. Good prices, great shipping, great service...on and on.

Then again probably every online store has some cons...blue zoo seems great with the pricing on inverts btw
