stupid live aquaria

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
No, lol, sorry, that was a joke - I'm jealous of you having a trispecular. I saw a pair up in Canada; they're magnificent. Kudos!

I think that walmart should not be allowed to sell fish. I went in one and found a betta shredding a group of dwarf gouramis. I scooped the betta out and put him in an empty cup I found lying around. Those poor dwarf qouramis. I didn't know fish could cower until that day. I think that it is the sellers responsibility to take care of the fish an educate the person buying them. If they don't know their stuff don't sell it to them!!!!

What would happen if www.liveaquaria.com had to sit down with everyone that bought a fish from them, and talk to them about its needs and requirements.

For starters, I wouldnt want to listen, and wouldnt buy fish from them. I dont need to hear that. I know what I am doing.

Second off, they wouldnt sell many fish or they would go bankrupt hiring people to sit on the phone all day.

Name ONE LFS or online store that does much more than (we do not allow you to buy two angelfish at the same time because they will kill each other etc) there are none.

It cant be the sellers responsibility, because the seller isnt the one that is going to be taking care of the fish. They should have knowledge of the fish, and as is mentioned before, sometimes they screw up, however I have spoken with zoo providers on rare fish species and some of the people I spoke to were rude and stupid.

Stupid is as stupid does, and its everywhere.

Atelomycterus baliensis. I'm almost positive on the ID

http://www.mnhn.fr/sfi/cybium/numero...6-White295.pdf

Great call - after looking at the photo on the pdf file and liveaquaria's photo - I have to agree - it definitely looks like a Bali Coral Catshark (A. baliensis). And the location is also about right for it to be a Bali Coral Catshark.

And the Bali Catshark (A,baliensis) has max length of about 18-20 inches -instead of the 27-28 inches of Coral Catshark (A.marmoratus). I agree that was a great deal.

Also, as for live aquaria DD, I have never dealt with a more reputable company. They searched for 6 months and sent me a mature H. trispeculare and no cost because of a labeling error. They called or emailed to give me updates on collection and a manager was always available within hours to answer my concerns. They even called the collection facility in Western Australia, while I waited, for an update.

On several occasions, like this one, they will come up with an incorrect ID, but usually they missed a newely described or rare species to the aquarium trade. Fortunately or unfortunately, I am obcessed with these damn creatures and can note the mistake.

As for tank size. I take their description as being for the specimen sold. 14" coral cat in 180 is OK. If you are waiting for any vendor to describe the detailed husbandry of an animal, you will be old and grey before you feel comfortable with their comprehensive list.

Just my opinion.

Not a bad thought, probably work for shark/ray section only...
Good obersrvation (Then again I'm still a newb...even with a marine tank for almmost 2 years)
