Isn't it weird like some people argue the human race is 'sopposed' to be 'straight' yet we have a scientific name like that....Or is that just me?

Biologists argue that saliva is a type of venom.

Hahaha, we are ALL venomous!

Really, if it doesn't affect us greatly, why should it matter?

I agree it doesn't matter in the large scheme of things. Regardless of what people supposedly "know" here on this post, there is a healthy debate going on about this very topic, argued by people much more knowledgeable than all of us. I simply find it interesting.

I'm pretty sure they have glands, and I've seen the fangs, they are more than just teeth, and unless thats lemonade comin' out of those....

All snakes have a parotid, or salivary gland. It does not make them venomous. Quite a few researchers have tested the “lemonade” you have seen and found it to not be venom. And just because some teeth are bigger than others doesn't necessarily make it a fang (a tooth for delivering venom in snakes).

'Cause human saliva is dirty...fact!

But just because human saliva will make us swell if injected, it doesn't PROVE westerns aren't. No point discussing it really as this debate will be around for years

I never said that swelling and pain is a sign of venom. You did.

The proof is there. Rear fangs, pain and swelling after a bite, it still gives alot of people a tickle after a bite lmao!!

Just because you get swelling and pain after a bite does not make it venomous, hence my human remark. Do you think snake saliva is any cleaner than human’s?

That’s just you. Apparently you see ‘homo’ as the equal of homosexual. ‘Homo’ is a root word. In New Latin it means human. In Old Latin it means ‘same’ (homologous, homogeneous, homophone, etc.). There are many arguments to be made for and against ***/straight beliefs. This is not one.

Cheers!

Um... Hognosed snakes are rear-fanged colubrids... and rear-fanged colubrids CAN be deadly. Ever heard of a Boomslang?

They are venomous, just that they are designed for different purposes. :screwy: There are a lot of venomous snakes, but their venom don't affect us or not too greatly. However we don't classify them as "hot" or "venomous."

Well, I stand corrected. So venemous simply means whether they affect homo sapiens to a certain degree or not. I guess I always just looked at the issue as either venemous or not, not necessarily what the effect is on humans. Thanks for clarifying.:)

Eh, look at laws. Some of city laws ban venomous spiders. Now if I am not mistaken.... all spiders are venomous. Even then, they still let people keep tarantulas legally, despite the wording of the law.

Now logically, what they meant are deadly spiders.

I never said it was the only sign. It can only be used with other signals too. Obviously. Your picking out bits of my writing for an argument (or a 'debate') should we say. Try including all my text if your going to try prove me wrong, (which your more than welcome to, I love learning :)) 'cause your statement telling me I said it was THE pain of swelling was untrue. I used this example in conjuction with others, so don't seperate it from the others. And BTW, Swelling and pain is a sign of being invenomated.

Like I already said, human saliva making us swell is slightly similar to (if not as potent obviously) that of the Komodo Dragon. They are considered poisonous to US. WE are not considered poisonous to US. I think you didn't understand what I was trying to say.

No It doesn't make it venomous, but from a venomous animal, its a sign its invenomated you :screwy:

I never suggested it wasn't. But it isn't clean.
I think I did state, 'Call it what you want: venomous, or dirty saliva, these snakes are classed as poisonous/venomous. I never said by me. General Keepers deary ;)

If something has the affect hoggies and many other animals of the like seem to do, Yes they will and ARE being classed as venomous, however mildly!

After all, they are rear fanged. I did say that aswell as TBI has.

Now mabye instead of suggesting what 'we sopposodly know here' is infact Bull, go and get your facts straight, cause mate, you've just used some false 'facts' and 'resources' to prove us wrong when you don't even know whether they are or not??

This was a joke. :screwy:

Cheers.

what's more stupid is when I tested on my mud turtle..if they can bite off someone's finger or not..
result; hard painful pinch for 20minutes..

Wow look where my thread went.... :screwy:
