Sturgeon identification

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks for the input. I was just wondering what they were. The darker two he clamed they were huso and the lighter one he claimed was chinese

that was my sterlet-acipenser ruthenus. It lived in my aquarium 4 years.

he died during a tropical summer when there were 34 degrees of celsius room temperature. So i should have a chiller for that situation. My present opinion is that adult sturgeons are unsuitable for aquariums but they can be suitable for pond.
Sturgeons will require a large swimming space , high oxygen levels and cold water ...

For the first fish (2nd pic which is the one below the parking lot pic) , it looks to be a Dexter ( sterlet x beluga) but to confirm we need to see the mouth , i think those mouth pics you uploaded are of the smaller fish .
If the mouth is wide , ear to ear , touching both cheeks or gill plates , it definitely is a dexter.

The smaller fish (3rd , 4th , last pic) , is definitely a siberian .

they are very skinny especially the siberians , they dont have the supposed / correct body shape.
believe me i Really hate to say this , but i suggest you power feed them ASAP or they won’t last much longer , keeping proper body weight and nutrition is number 1 priority for acipensers.

We know a hybrid between sterlet and beluga under name "Bester"...Your right it could be a hybrid, the first one..The other Siberian sturgeons are very skinny...
I only heard the term" Dexter" from children's fairy tales. Certainly not as name for a fish....
