Hello,

A weird question - what if I submerge a hang on back filter with a pump that is not supposed to be submerged? Will that result in a electric shock whenever the water is touched? I am looking at Fluval C4.

Only submersible pumps can be submerged, all submersible pumps are epoxy coated or in some way made to be protected from water, an unsubmersable pump will immediately fail and be trashed, and if you touch the water you will not be happy.

The manual says:

I. If the Fluval Motor Unit falls into the water DO NOT reach for it! First unplug it and then retrieve it.

If any of the electrical components of the Power Filter get wet, unplug it immediately.

II. If the Motor Unit shows any sign of abnormal water leakage or if RCD (or GFCI- Ground Fault Current Interrupter) switches off, disconnect the power supply cord from the wall socket and remove pump from water.

III. Carefully examine the Power Filter after installation. It should not be plugged in if there is water on
parts not intended to be wet.
