Substrate Help!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
if you want cheap i recommend mircle gro 100% organic potting soil. it comes in a orange bag. just take out all the wood chips. it can be placed directly into the aquarium or you can have it go through a minerialization process. then top off the soil with sand or flourite or small gravel. to replace drained nutrients in the soil you may want to buy root tabs to make the soil last londer.

I used Flourite substrate in my 150 gallon tank mixed with regular sand... I will let you know how it works since I just started experimenting with it this last weekend

Well Im going to start off with my 5 gallon, as u see I have already purchased 60lbs of Eco-Complete and 1lb of the ADA Amazonia soil. That should be more than enough for the 5, however I may use that idea for my other tanks I plan on starting up!

I have thought about buying flourite as well, to use as a 3rd layer for this 5 gallon. But I dont think it will be neccessary. but definitely let me know with your progress, as I plan on transforming my 130 gallon into a planted tank as well in the near future.

Just an update, I received my co2 diffuser today, very excited. However, now I am so eager to set it up, I dont even want to wait till I settle on drift wood and stones as well. Is it a bad idea to rush things tho?

Here is a pic of what is to be my planted tank, tanks still a bit dirty, just a old tank I had laying around I decided to try it out on.

Guess its been a while since I decided I want to do this. But this app mfk made has made things heaps easier. So here is my tank that has now been established for about 2 months now. I seem to be having an issue with nutrient for some of the plants. Any ideas?

I've just started to use some liquid ferts a couple of months ago. It definitely helped the HC grow a bit, but it's still not a full carpet like I was hoping it would be now. I'm using API Leaf Zone and Flourish Excel along with a CO2 system.
