Get 3m color quatz red or tan s-grade. Rainbow color, won't help your bichir to get more contrast on the pattern. Rainbow got the same effect as the pebbles as they are also multi color. Why rainbow anyway?

Yes you can. My substrates right now is mixed of red and tan with a lil' bit of black. About close to a quarter to the red and tan that I've mixed.
