For anyone that cares..... After trying out several foods from freeze dried shrimp, bloodworms, earthworms, mealworms, chopped up prawns, pellets....pretty much everything that wasn't live.. I finally got my gar to eat white bait! All that was needed was to have the white bait at the end of some tongs and a little bit of coaxing (wriggling the food around to mimic live food) and the gar just took it and has been for the last few days!

Wasn't too bad after all.... now I have a endli juv which won't eat his prawns anymore..... another hurdle to overcome!

cheers for the info. im going to try this out !

Congrats!!! Just got my gar off live 2 months ago, and have had him for almost 10 years. It a tough thing to do. Got him on frozen bloodworms and beefhearts. So much better than starved, diseased, and never know what else feeder fish. That should save you some time running to the LFS.

Thanks for all the comments, just an update on the Gar, he is eating very well twice a day on white bait and the occassional feeder. For some weird reason we had fillets of ID Sharks or Pangasius Fish in the freezer, so i just chopped them up into thin strips like the white bait and gave them ago.... and the little guy took it!.... still along way to go to get him onto pellets, but i guess the next step is prawns and beef heart... would be awesome to get him onto pellets....

The little guy is growing very nicely and has gotten fairly fat over the last few weeks. Still can't get this stupid Endlicheri Bichir to eat more and grow though!
