Success With EBJD

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I get what you are saying. Its not a naturally occurring gene though. Dont you think with all the people that have bred jd over the years someone else would have noticed ebjd fry in their spawns? The story of ebjd origin is a bunch of crap. If the breeder told everybody he got unicorns from breeding two horses that must have carried the gene would you believe him?
I am a natural redhead by the way.

If this gene is not a naturally occurring gene, then where was it obtained?

hmm, alot to think about. The LFS are one of the few in my area that have many "harder to find" cichlids. The three they have are intense blue they look good stock, very active straight at the front of the tank, they would probably tell me there from good stock, but without seeing the parents this could be wrong. I may take the risk, they seem worth it, there £30 here, so would be around 60USD

From what iv looked into then, the main problem is IP's? what are the main signs of parasites, and what are the main indications theres a prob with an EBJD
Watch out for them not eating, having white poop, sunken in areas of the face and gills, sunken in belly, and signs of stress. I have seen many with gill and fin deformity so you should try to avoid any that show that right off the bat. If they look healthy and youve been wanting one go for it. Just a warning, if they look good now that can change at any time. There is something that makes a healthy ebjd just waste away out of nowhere. I lost my largest and it happened so fast and without warning. Still bummed out about it actually. He was aggressive and ruled his tank but stopped eating and just got weird.

As far as illness, IP can be a problem with them. But the most common problem I've found is deformities, which don't always show until they hit the 3-5" mark. If you want to be cautious with getting them, a UV sterilizer is an option. If they're active like that, it sounds like they're pretty healthy. As far as diet, a good staple pellet like NLS Thera A+ can help a lot in keeping the fish healthy, but some issues are genetic and no matter what you feed them, they're going to have problems.

Mine got ich when I first got him and I've had to treat him for IP once. Other than that, he's been very healthy.

hmm! well i feel a little more confident after reading some of the replys. I would say its a gamble like a flowerhorn then? As the problems listed here are very similar! and i had a good success with a deformed thai silk once.

There all neon blue, very people responsive! i actually have some NL 1mm i feed my smaller targets now and again, i may go with that, ill have to keep you all posted!

I believe they were jd hybridized with a cuban or escondido then line bred for color. Or something similar. I dont know for sure as I wasnt there.

I wasn't there either, however...your theory doesn't explain the gold morph JD's, the color morph in bay snooks, blonde HRP's ect ect ect. So we'll just agree to diagree
