Success With EBJD

U want to get one that looks like this at 3".. here a pic of my old one at 3"
Virtually none existent here

I do see the argument but without claiming to understand the gene side of thing, i will have to admit, they deformities, illness and early death are a common hybrid trait, dont get me wrong if they were originally hybridized they clearly have been bred back that many times there more JD looking.
Right down to the breeding, the success rate of breeding is that of a blood parrot, i can totally see why people would lean towards hybrids, but without going back and actually seeing it, i guess no-one will ever know. But either way, stunning fish, but i dont know whether i would take the risk when there are fish just as beautiful and you can vertually throw them in the tank and walk away and they'll be fine.

Interesting debate, i dont mind people talking about it on this thread, because its info i didnt know.... and i like learning.

Well make your own determination I gone thru whole debate and there's no proof provided of how they where hybrid its all hear say! I've bred them as well and bred other cichlids and breeders are cutting corners not culling deformaties and selling junk. I've had two out of 35 ebjd die on me.. I have babies that have no uv sterilizers doing just fine I've also had to cull less fortunate ones. I also have seen alot of trouble with gold x blue cross which I have babies from a friend I traded with and I would say honestly
you have to decide on what you want op. I would say I have an 8.5 inch ebjd that is just as hardy as any other Ive owned. If you get a good stock you will be fine.

NOT ALL ELECTRIC BLUE JACK DEMPSEYS ARE CREATED EQUAL!
Many are inbred. Most stores sell them at 1 inch before the defects are really viable. Because so many people are focused on price and not quality, one will rarely get quality.

My own personal experience suggests... what was said above... You just don't know what your getting with these fish... They are sold young.. deformations are not visable.. One time i bought 6 baby ebjd.. very healthy.. all looked good. Some started developing faster than others.. I gave 3 away before any known visible signs of distress or bad genetics ... other than size.. Out of my 2 best looking out of the 3 i kept.. 1 was a runt .. the smallest of the 6 that i bought.. i kept.. Ended up blind in one eye and extremely small compared to the others.. out of the other 2 (which were my pick of the litter of 6) 1 started beaking at about one and a half years of age... at about 5 to 6 inches big. The other is a beautiful male specimen.. So.. Lots of problems can be created here. Not only do you have careless breeders of these fish... not culling bad fish, inbreeding, ext..ext.. Now .. from my understanding these fish will breed around 4 inches or so.. A fish now may breed, before showing signs of what kind of specimen it is .. good or bad shape ext..ext.. The fish that beaked was just as beautiful a fish at 4,5 inches as the other... but by 6 to 7 inches.. the "beak face" was obvious..

Sort of a new twist on things.. i'll look for some pictures for example..

This is why if I ever get a spawn mine will be grown out before selling. I'm pretty happy with my guy, I bought him at 4" and he's perfect to me, regardless of fry or not I paid 35 for him and he looks great.

thanks for the info! i may try one if i moved, i dont really want two setups. The temptation i have just to buy one and stick it in my main tank and hope for the best is quite strong, giving the fact there 50/50% either way. But dont worry, i dont think ill bother this time, ill perhaps just admire everyone elses.
