Sufficient Filtration

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My aquarium is 180g I have 2 pups(4"),5 discus(3.5"),4 clown loaches(4"), and i armatus(8"). All I use for filtration is 35L of K1 in a fluidized 55g with 2 filter socks. I never get ammonia or nitrite and i over feed them alot. My system has been running like this for 3 months with the pups and 2 years before them its really the best filtration in my opinion :) Good luck with the tank I couldn't possibly see you having any issues especially with the K1 and the drip.

Thanks for replies guys, helps alot! I'll try and and break the FX5 down and have a look at it,

I will try and get the tank's bits and peices going tomorrow, i'll start a transformation thread on what i'm up to in the right area (hope I find it :p)

I have a 180 gallon tank with 2 stingrays(growout for 2 hystrix), and several other fish like 4 altifrons, 4 satanoperca, 2 red cheek and 5 angel fish, works like a charm, have never bin worried. None of the fish are fully grown tho. The tank is on a autodrip changing 30-40 gallons a day.

About the FX5 i get these problems on one of mine everytime i restart it, on mine its airtrap. My fx5 is pumping from the sump and up to the main tank again, so it really has to work for its money, no gravity helping there :)

Sweet, great to know, i've been quoted $1650 for the pair they are about 19-20cm each, In Australia, does that sound like a good price?. I will throw up some pictures when the guy gets back they are like more Motoro than Leo from what i've been told

For motoro that is super expencive. They are around 100 dollars a piece here in Norway, even cheaper around the world. But by the time ive bin on here, ive seen that australia prices are very high compared to other countrys for some reason.

Haha yeah i'm not that silly. No it sounds like a car running out of fuel coughing and spluttering, the hoses shake up and down but its only intermitent.

RUN A powerhead thru (into)the intake of the fx5 ...that could(should)fix it.... it will get rid of the air that is likely causing the problem...

I have a 8'x2'x2 tank with 4 - 12"+ rays and 5 severums using 3 FX5 filters with no problem. 1800 gallon flow rate, 240 gallon tank. 7 1/2 times turnover per hour. No problems. Currently in the works to build a 500 gallon to move them into.

definitely not 1800 gallon flow rate, unless your running no media in them. more realistically like 1000 gallon flow rate.
