1st pick: western hognose
pros: stays small, won't bite, easy to handle, extremely low maintenance.
cons: buy one that has already started eating because they can be difficult to start, they "puff" when angry but will never open their mouths or bite. the babies/juveniles tend to musk when upset.
2nd: childrens python
not to be confused with the larger "spotted python"
pros: gentle, tough as nails, likes to explore, greedy feeder, rarely bites even as a baby.
cons: only one, it's not flashy. i think they're beautiful anyway!
3rd and last but not least: a honduran milk
you really gotta google all the different morphs of these guys!
pros: very flashy, durable, greedy eater, pick your favorite morph, rarely bites
cons: babies/juveniles are very flighty and nervous and bite and musk(have patience, they'll outgrow it!).
