Hello everyone. I currently have 2 green severums in my 75 gallon along with 4 silver dollars, a butterfly pleco, sailfin pleco, and a striped raphael catfish. Right now it just doesnt feel right! The severums are both 8 inches long as well as the sailfin and raphael. The silver dollars are still pretty small.

I am looking to get a new pair of cichlids to replace my severums and would like some suggestions. What pair of South American or Central American cichlids would you recommend keeping in a 75 gallon with the other fish I listed (At any age and size, juvenile and full grown). When I say pair I do mean 1 male and 1 female and of the same species. I dont know what is wrong with my severums and why they dont breed. I do 60% weekly water changes and feed them twice a day.

At this point I am pretty tired of trying to figure out how to fix how they behave and just want a new pair of different cichlids. I am not going to "eventually" upgrade to a larger tank like most people say when they ask for suggestions. I am keeping the 75 gallon.

Let me know if any of these are possible:
Red Terror
Pearsei
Oscar
Any Vieja type
Bocourti
Zonatum

Thanks!

a pair of oscars in a 75 would definitely be pushing it...you'd need about 125 gallons just for the pair. someone correct me if im wrong, but red terrors, arnt they referred to as "festae" cichlids also? therefore they need a huge tank..idk about the other species but..why dont you try for a convict pair? they're interesting i hear...

just my $.02
good luck!

Two oscars won't work, one will work in a 75 gallon but not two. I have convicts and that should be good with your tank. I know they are common but they are fun to watch.

Check out T-bar cichlids (sajica). The males max out at 6", females 4" and they are fairly easy to breed as well as gorgeous fish. I would think you could keep 1 male and 2 females without problems. Just be careful as the males will sometimes kill a female during breeding.

Two different species are called Red Terrors. Mayans and Festae both share this title. Be specific when you ask for a Festae if that is what you want. Don't even mention the term Red Terror. In a 75 you are limited to one big fish and a few small ones. A pair is out of the question due to size, aggression, and bio load. Your Severums may have laid eggs without you knowing it. You have two plecos and they are notorious egg eaters. If your fish spawn, your plecos will eat the eggs during the night if the parents can't fend them off. Your tank will lose space as your Silver Dollars grow too. Depending on the species, they will grow to at least 6-8". Add those to another 12" showpiece, two plecos, and a raphael cat; and you're pretty much done in a 75gal.

These are beautiful fish as well.

Festaes are Red Terrors, Mayans are Mayans. people are to anal over this.

I would suggest Cutteri, Convicts or Honduran Red Points. They max out around 4-6"s depending on male or female. They're fun to watch and I honestly think they're beautiful fish to keep. You just have to find some quality species of them through a good source.
