hope you're aware that TSNs get MASSIVE... not too much smaller than red tails

Ye am aware cheers pal, just trying to find out what type of TSN it is and wether or not it’s a short body, I know I will have to upgrade tank size in future or move him on but I do plan on upgrading at some point for my cichla anyway.

I would suggest a vulture or two...or more :) Skip the SB versions as most will not live beyond 3 years.

Speaking from experience? You keep more SB fish than anybody else I know. Have you started loosing them?

Hope you are aware that 99.99% TSN in our trade fail to break 2'-2.5', being garbage-gene fish and many, perhaps 1/4 of all fail to reach 24", especially in smaller tanks.

On average in our hobby, TSN reach 2' while RTC reach 3.5'. Weight-wise, RTC blow TSN out by a factor 4-6 to 1.

That 3.3' TSN you found a video of is an exception and cannot be cited to exemplify a rule, a statistical expectation, a reason, as you are trying to accomplish.

Yes, because most TSNs are kept in 55 gallon tanks and fed flake food... The video isn't intended to represent a rule but find me a video of a 3.3' foot tigrinus and I'll eat my shoes. TSNs tend to be more active and pelagic than a lot of other cats recommended is this thread as well, which is why I suggest something like a tigrinus is a better choice. I can count on one hand the number of people with comfortably housed adult TSNs and they are all the biggest fish in their tank. Moreover TSNs tend to be more active and pelagic than say, a tigrinus. I just want to make sure that OP is 100% sure what he's getting into.

Also I think the problem is more complicated than TSNs being "garbage gene" fish. There are 8 species in the Pseudoplatystoma genus collectively called "TSN" and there isn't sufficient data out there to characterize the genus. Moreover a lot of "garbage gene" fish get a lot bigger than their pure predecessors (liger). Nobody knows how big RTCxTSNs get for that matter. I think its a safer bet to assume that you have TSN that could get very big rather than make the assumption that you have a "garbage gene" fish that won't get much bigger than 2'. I don't think anyone but an ichthyologist can answer that question.

Also is that your orino on your profile pic ?

Okay just making sure! A lot of folks conflate TSN with being similar to tigrinus. Also the orino was mine, I had that orino i think 4-5 years ago and had to sell it eventually because one of my aros kept going after it. Was a really special fish! Are you just getting into the pbass game? I've been out of the hobby for a bit and am just getting back into it. Noticed there are a lot of azuls going around, when I was heavy into pbass there were only adults and nobody was importing fry. Might be something to capitalize on..

Ye I’m into my peacock bass that orino looked amazing.I have 4 at the moment but hoping to narrow it down to a pair, I also bought a dorado recently on an impulse buy.and ive always had bottom dwellers in my tank for a clean up, quite new to large catfish as I used to have eels or stingrays or smaller stuff.

I understand TSN grow to big sizes because I’ve actually seen one about 3 ft in my local aquatic store in they’re show tank as well as many on YouTube. but understand a lot of them don’t grow to these sizes for a number of reasons. But I’m still unsure of the ID on mine and wether or not it’s this short body type or not. Does anybody know ?

Aquariums etc have the money to have a large fish shipped to them from the wild and make the purchase of that fish. You can't go off of what you see from them because they have connections we don't. Further more I side with viktor. He is stating facts. Tim is going off of "what ifs", mentioning other species etc for what? We don't see them in the hobby. Why? Because we get culls from farms like we do with many species of large fish. It's logical.

If this fish doesn’t reach 2-2.5 foot then that would actually suit me because it wouldn’t force me into upgrading my aquarium to soon. Any ideas on the ID
