Suicidal Stocking

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well, Thank you for all the input guys. I've decided to scoop and return to create a more balanced Central American tank (more suitable for my pH of 8-8.2 and actually my preferred locale). I didn't buy a 210 gallon for temporary fish, I bought it to have water pets for the long haul. My JD and mates from my 90 were supposed to go on in this tank, but couldn't handle the move despite transferring my uncleaned 6 year running Eheim 2262 canister. I still don't know what happened to this day as all water parameters were ideal.

I realize the new mix may still have issues, but I'll sort them out at a later date when they become a problem and by that time should have a new 90 or 125 gallon setup. Any glaring issues staring you in the face?

I will say that everyone including Ray Charles could see none of those working long term, plus you’re talking about adding more with a maculicauda. As I said I won’t tell anyone how to enjoy their hobby so I’m out, best of luck.

LOL, Survival of the fittest then. That’s what I’ll name the tank.

You’ll have to delete some fish along the way but they might just do it for you. Either way, make sure there are plenty of territories and sight breaks

Thank You for your constructive response! That’s the plan. I think the best thing I can do for now is make it CA only and go from there. The doomsday responses were expected though.

And also, please don't replicate what you see in YouTube or take advice from belligerent Facebook groups that'll say different. A majority of those people never kept half of the fish mentioned or the same fish they claim to have never make it to the half way journey of growth and unfortunately it's the fish that suffer.

There you go guys. I reorganized and rehomed and living with this as my final in the 210. Chat GPT was very helpful in recommendations that "could" work in the long run but being carefully managed. All CAs now. It does mention if I wanted to add any more CAs 3 fire mouths and adding 5 more Filament barbs or getting a blend with silver dollars could work as well, but then fully stocked. I have two Ehiem 2262s (XL) running this tank, so plenty of filtration. Tank temp sent to 77F with an InBird controller.

-Jaguar
-Texas
-Jack Dempsey
-Convict
-Red Headed Veija
-Nicaraguan
-5 Filament Barbs

Here's a photo. Still need to work on adding more rock work on the right side. Got light diffuser under the sand ready for it. (apologies for the glare)

I really really really hope you do more research than just chatgpt....

Dont get me wrong its a great place to start but should never be the end of it.

I have to say beautiful tank though, could use a bit more scape so the fish can hide if needed but its clean imo

I agree and thank you for the compliment. One of the canisters has been running for 6 years and don't really get algae anymore because of it. The second canister I just recently got it running and it's filled with Seachem Matrix. I am going to add more rock scaping (hiding spots). I did get a constructive response here that SA and CAs should be kept separate and that I had too many killers together besides just claiming it's the end of the world, so needed further advice and the store is rarely a good place to go. I needed a little more detailed recommendations for tankmates and decided that the jaguar and the red devil was a recipe for disaster sooner than later. I'll keep it at the current stocking with the Jag as my centrepiece fish with no direct competition and will monitor his aggression closely. So far he's to his own and not a very up front active swimmer vs the others.

It'll be a hit or miss on the stocking later in the future especially if you end up with a male Jaguar. Females aren't as bad, but still a parachromis. I'd be more worried about the barbs becoming snacks.
Tank is scaped nice though. Where'd you get the wood?
