Sump issues (now with pictures!)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Nah, that's just a mark probably left by the plastic molds that made the piece.

I'll try that, gonna have to drain the tank though :(

Thanks.

Why would you have to drain it? You have an overflow, you should be able to just drain that at most. If you are just replacing the tube, turn of the return pump. Wait for the overflow to stop, and replace the hose.

What he said

and I would try the smaller hose...what size barb fitting is it and what size hose is currently on it. If its not hard to get on the barb fitting its probably to big...maybe.

Also just a heads up...and place that the water is splashing or whatever like from all the bubble in the sump...it will create a big mess with saltwater. ONce the water evaps it leaves behind a nice salt creation called salt creep (thats what I call it anyway) So make sure you cover any spot that might be bubbling out of the sump. Also if you have a slight leak in your hose lines you will see the same salt creep...even if its not vivibly leaking..

all that.... but yes.. you are going to have a huge salt mess all over the place even if you put foam/sponge in there... yer best bet is to seal it with a piece of acrylic/plexi and silicone it in place.. do your best to make it as snug as you can....
i get salt on the side of the tank thats almost a foot away from my highbrackish tank.. it has a 3/4 gap between the hob and the cover...

Yeah, i know the horrors of salt creep, stuff gets on my lid and blocks the light in some spots. ( i got a 12 gallon nano)

the sump also came with a plastic lid.

the barb is 1" with 1" tubing on it, ill try experimenting with a 3/4th but it might be tricky to get it on.

Try moving the claim up a little and not have it on the thread..

Yeah if tis a 1" barbed fitting and 1" hose it should be working...you can try 2 clamps too...dont line them up exactly the same tho...and tighten them suckers down

What the hell, it's still leaking, even after adding 2 metal clamps, and ratcheting them down as tight as i could.

How is this possible? what is driving the water OPPOSITE the flow, to escape through this seal?

I can't see the top of your stand pipe vary good but it doesn't look like you have a small vent hole drilled in the top of the T.
If your drain make allot of noise? that is why.
