You can make an intake for a wet/dry pull water from the bottom. You can also just put a small powerhead in the bottom of the tank to keep it from settling.

That is when the canister picks it up :D

I have a W/D, Canister and a HOB on my tank but I am just HARDCORE... I might just put my second HOB on the Wet/Dry sump :WHOA:

So what is the difference if you use make an intake (for the wet/dry) to pull water off of the bottom?

nothing besides some extra plumbing if you still want it to self start after a power outage and not to flood the floor... and I am not sure if you would get the same flow rate so you might have to use a larger diameter pipe.

that will work but you would have to prime it your self after a power outage...

I'm just going through all of this because you said that a wet/dry is a horrible mechanical filter. Now it seems if it's done properly it can be a good mechanical and biological filter.

with 10' of plumbing for one over flow... not including the run for the overflow to the sump

Im thinking this set up as a final design. any thoughts?

instead of a 90* elbow in the pump return line I would do a couple of 45*s...

For the bio max I would replace with bio balls or pot scrubbies which are better and a lot cheaper...

for the intake\overflow you would really need like a coil then a hole in one of the elbows so it can prime then plug it so the vacuum will suck water out of the end at the bottom of the tank...

IMO it really isnt worth it but that is just me...
