with 10' of plumbing for one over flow... not including the run for the overflow to the sump

You must be working with really tall tanks.

Im thinking this set up as a final design. any thoughts?

as long as it's drilled, that will work. Make sure you build the duroso style standpipe like it shown on their website and you'll be in good shape. You can go lower into the tank like you have in your picture, but the top of the stand pipe needs to match the original design.

my overflows have around 8' of pipe per one...

are you talking about an overflow for a (bottom) drilled tank, or a HOB overflow?

HOB... 8' for a drilled tank would look pretty funny. although I am not sure what a working self starting flood free bottom sucking overflow would look like :D

I was confused because the tank in this thread is drilled.
On a (bottom) drilled tank it would look pretty much like what he has on his diagram. Just a bit different on the top. You can do the same on the HOB overflows by drilling a small vent on top of the intake and running a pipe down to the bottom.

Or, you can do it like some of the examples here http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=101156

10x is just plain overkill when using a wet/dry. I've never needed more than 3x. Hell, I run about 2.5x on my 265 and it has quite a few bruisers. For the stand pipes google duroso stand pipe.

And if your sump has bad mechanical filtration, you're doing it wrong;)

Man you just saved me a ton of $$$. I was gong to buy an expensive pump and over flow to try and get 10x turn over on a 240.

btw can u keep adding onto this with pics of your progress
im going to have to make a wet/dry for my 150 and i would like all the examples as possible
doing MASS research because i am a failure at building things
