...Danny...

I just bought some glass-holes.com overflows and there's a hole for an airline in the 90 elbow going from the overflow part to the sump. From what I understand an air line is inserted into the hole for noise reduction.

Another possible reason for a air line would be to prevent a syphon if there is a power outage.

Sorry I can't be more specific but at least I'm not sending you to a search engine like a 12 year old...........

Another question, that I am unsure of. As far as the return from the sump to the tank, does it matter where it goes into the tank?

as a general rule, it should go into a location that will create current to circulate the water in such a way as to not have any dead spots in the tank...;)

Danny,
they are there to vent the overflow, so it doesn't gurgle and gulp air like a choking toilet...

think of it like this...

take a full pop bottle and turn it up side down to empty...glug glug glug...
now
do the same thing with a vent hole in the bottom...smooth and steady, no gulping...

Just remember that most of these questions are perfectly good questions and do warrant correct answers...however, they have been answered numerous times, so when some of the guys link you to the search feature, they are just saying that there is where you'll find most all of the basic information and fundementals, they arn't being rude, it is pretty easy to use the search on MFK...
you'll actually find many answers to the same question, giving you a better understanding...

Anything else? ~B;)

Can I glue?
