The tank is gonna be around 140 gallons. I don't have a sump yet, i was wondering what size of one I should I get. I've never used this kind of setup before.
On my freshwater tanks I use 3x turnover rate as a guide. If you need more current you can either increase the pump size or use power heads. I have some pretty heavy stock levels and 3x has never failed me.
Maybe aim at getting a 50-60gallon sump and a 600-700gph pump, the hight of the tank lowers the flow of the pump and some have a maximum head hight, meaning that they will not pump higher then sal 5 feet up. So going with a 600-700gph you will be giveing yourself a bit of slack for that giveing you that magical turnover rate that your after.
