Sumps

Ok so i took my first baby steps. Im drawing out a sump design for the 75 gal im just gonna start another thread on it and see what you guys think. If i can do this with out pulling the little bit of hair out that i have left i'll graduate to a sump for the new tank ;)

Its a shame that the mom and pop lfs are almost extinct in my area be nice to see a set up in person. Think one is still open may be time for a field trip
 
Go to a fish store with saltwater tanks. They almost all have sumps. Go look at reefcentral.com. Those guys are MASTERS of sumps, it's all they talk about. Sumps and skimmers all the time.

Wanna keep ally sump related questions here.

So i have a quesrions about bulk heads the outside threading is just for the nut to fit over it ?

The plumbing would get glued to the inside of the threaded end right ?

So basically a 1.5 bulk head is bigger than 1.5 to accommodate the 1.5 inch plumbing
 

The surface of a bulkhead that mates to the aquarium surface, and to the rubber gasket--that needs to be scraped smooth with a razor blade. When they cast the part at the factory, there's a ridge that's left over from pulling the mold apart. Scrape that smooth because it interferes with the sealing action of hte gasket.

Hand tight pluse a 1/4 or 1/2 turn. DON'T overtighten!

On the sump i did for the 75 gal i ended up using 1.25 pvc connected to the bulkhead with a rubber coupling could the difference in size of thw bulkhead 1 inch and the pvc 1.25 inches be causing the slight gurgle ?

No that's the way I have my set up. The little gurgle is from inside the overflow box
