For tankmates I would recommend madtoms that get over 5 inches or small Bullheads native only to the Southeast US (the easiest to get would be Stonecats, Btdarters on the web has them for sale right now). I have heard of people keeping Golden Shiners and some of the larger Chubs in with Bluegill.....I had Green Sunfish and every time I tried to keep a Creek Chub or Golden Shiner in with them they would kill it! I think it was because my 39gallon tank was too small for my Greens when they got over 6 inches, so as far as tank size is concerned "bigger is better".
