Another question - How would I get rid of parasites if I decided to go with Sunnys?

Ive never had parasite problems with sunnys, or any native for that matter

What if I were to release them back into the pond I caught hem from once they hit about 6 inches?

Due to the possibility of introducing diseases into the original capture point, its never a good idea to release natives after they are taken. If you cant re-home it, destroy it.

The only sunfish I'd like in my tank would be a Pumpkinseed.

Pumpkinseeds are definitely great fish to keep, not too aggressive, but there are others perfectly suited to aquarium life, that are just as attractive, and some stay pretty small, such as the Orange Spotted, or Dollar Sunfish

Sunfish are typically aggressive fish, but they will often ignore fish that do not share their approximate body shape.

I have a red spot and a green terror in the same tank and they often harass each other. I have also seen my war-mouth harass a smaller bluegill in his tank but completely ignore a bullhead that is slightly smaller than it. Likewise i have some long-ears growing out in a 55 with a bunch of shiners and top minnows, three of the fish (long-ears) seem to be engaged in dominance behavior, they harass each other and the smaller long-ears in the tank but pretty much ignore the shiners and top minnows.

however, if you have 2 sunfish that pair off they will probably kill anything else in the tank
