Sunsun's any Good?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Mine is over 2 years running. It's cheap and works.

I went ahead and ordered that Sunsun. I am now on Amazon looking at a 2 liter box and a 5 liter box of Eheim Substrat Pro. Not sure how much I will need. I will fill two trays without question. Maybe just go with three trays full.

How much volume do the trays hold? Are there any recommendation for better or other types that I may want to use? Is there anything better than sintered glass media? Please advise.

I use mine with everything that comes in the box and have never felt the need to remove/replace any of the filter media in it. Just my 2 cents. But if it's not broke.... don't fix it.

I use the included blue filter pad and top that with filter floss/wool for the bottom tray. All the other trays are filled with bio media. The fliter floss does a great job at catching all the solids that comes through.

I have 2 SunSun 304b running on my 135 gallon plus a Rena xp3. I gotta say for the price of the SunSun's, I personally think it's a good filter. Does the same job as my xp3 but a lot cheaper. I just use what comes with it and so far not a problem. you'll be amazed by how much solids this filter collects.

The description says the 303B is a 4-stage filter, But this thing only has three trays? Do they consider the UV on of the stages? The direction book also "shows" 4 trays. I thought it was going to have 4.

Also, which way does the water flow through the tank? Does it flow down through the trays or UP from the bottom?? Please advise. I put ALL the white floss into the bottom tray. Put the bio balls and charcoal in the second tray and left e ceramic rings in the mesh and put in the top tray.

I just want to make sure the water is well filtered mechanically before it gets to all the other media to prevent the bio balls and ceramic from clogging up.

This thing came in a plain brown box. The unit was simply sealed (taped) inside two bubble bags and next to it was a rectangular box with all the hardware and media. But the Plain brown box and packing tape used to close the bubble bags just made me wonder if it was actually new. The hardware bags were all sealed. Unit seemed "clean".

Unit was a snap to set up. As everyone mentioned the intake and output hardware is cheap as hell. That being said, I set the unit on the floor so the hoses were not looped. Filled the can up to the top tray. Put the lid on and pumped it 4-5 times and the water started to gravity flow into the unit. Once the water level equalized out and up the output hose, I turned it on and she went. Quiet too. I can hear it but its one of the quieter things in there.

I thought it was sucking air because it kept spitting air. then I realized it was just sucking airstone air. I shut off EVERYTHING else and let it run for ten minutes to see if it would spit air wen I tilted it. Nope. With the airstone turned off once purged of air it stayed purged.

Thats it for tonight. Hope it doesnt leak! Wish me luck.

Yes they consider the uv as 1 stage. Water flows down through the uv and up the trays. So you'll want to put your filter pads on the bottom tray.

Should be in a nice packaging

I got a totally plain brown cardboard box. With only a shipping label on the outside. Inside was the canister which was inside two large bubble wrap bags. And next to it was a flat rectangular white PLAIN box with all the hardware bags in it. How do I post a pic?

NOT A RETAIL BOX.
