My armatus starting to piss me off quite a bit! lol It always franticly darts around the tank when I'm around and it bumps it's nose at the glass. It's like he is chasing his own reflection. Now there is a large redish part on it's nose from all the rubbing. The tankmates are just 3 bichirs that never move. I have a divider with a largemouth bass at the other end but they never scare each other across the glass.

How can i make my armatus stop? I already added salt to help heal the rubbing.

Is it true that once it hits afoot, it becomes less skittish?

That's odd, what size tank is he in again? Both of mine sit right at the front of my tank not skittish at all

I agree that it could be a tank size issue. The only time I've seen my tats act like that was when they were in a 20 gallon QT tank when I first brought them home. I know that tats can have a slightly different temperament than armatus, but i think it could be relevant.

Mine usualy hangs out in his usual spot all day but will come to the front of the tank now when I walk by. Seems to reconize me as the food source already.

my tank is located right next to the window. Could the bright light be scaring the fish? I put a black background in front of my tank so it could cover the sunlight. i also turned off the filter to experiment. The armatus seemed alot more calmer (turned the filter back on right after).

My armatus tank is close by to a window for natural light (for the live plants) and he's never seemed botherd by it. I also have a black background as well. Iv heard some people cover all sides of the tank except the front. Supossed to make the fish feel more secure, maybe try that.

I covered the front side of the tank with a black background. It is less skittish now. I'll keep it on till the snout heals.
