Supplementing with Spirulina

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
OP, can you get human grade spirulina powder in your neck of the woods? We have it everywhere in health food stores. I find it pretty cheap in powder capsules, and sprinkle it on wet defrosted fish/krill or as an inclusion into gel food. It's pretty easy to work with and I don't have to put the full capsule in.

Sure can Rocksor, in fact I got some capsules for myself some months back, but as usual with such supplements I got lazy after taking them a couple of times lol. But this other stuff I have pictured is specifically made for fish, so I'm thinking that it may have some other more fish-oriented features which human grade spirulina might not have (or it could be exactly the same, I'm not sure).

Anyway though I'm also wondering, have you (or anyone else stopping in here) taken spirulina yourself regularly over a good time period? If so did you feel healthier and look more colorful as a result? :)

After several months of supplementation I had a heart attack. Probably more related to 40+ yrs of smoking. lol

Accidentally, I found out that I am allergic to spirulina. It made me puke my guts out, I got very sick.

I was adding it to my veggie/fruit smoothies for a while but couldnt take the taste, it made me nauseous

Yes, apparently it is not that uncommon...

I am also allergic to fish. I can't eat them. I think they're well aware :)

Actually the couple times I took the capsules my stomach did feel kinda weird, which I mostly put down to my gut not being used to it. Really not much of a health food nut though, my system is more oriented toward the digestion of proper food like pizzas, hamburgers and lasagne lol.

A few days ago I finally started using the liquid Spirulina mentioned in 1st post with some of my Arowana meals. It's quite thick but is absorbed easily by most food, if not too easily -- which made me wonder if giving too much Spirulina (like too much of just about anything) is something that could cause some problems? I'll probably only give it twice a week but any opinions about this question from a dietary perspective would be appreciated.

This was very white Pangasius, you can see how well it soaks up the Spirulina solution after just a minute or two:
