Suppliers selling LIES

Yeah I know sellers often give out false info but I've just never seen it so bad. A 4 foot shark being sold for ten gal tanks...!!!

Anyway, I went there to get something and I don't even remember what it was bc I got distracted by the fish. I ended up 'saving' a blue gourami, mostly because none of my lfs have been selling them, only the dwarfs. She's gorgeous, which honestly surprised me since most Wal-Mart fish just look like hell.

I'm mostly surprised they're still selling fish there. I can't imagine they sell very often. They must get them dirt cheap from whatever supplier they get their fish from.

The other day I overheard an employee at petsmart selling a betta to two girls, and saying that they're used to living in small containers like that so they should be fine....

If only people could see my bettas. They're both in giant tanks and are so happy. Their personalities really shine when you can put them in a community tank and watch them interact with everything in it.

Bettas put into tiny tanks or 'goldfish' bowls really suffer and become lethargic and 'boring' to look at because they don't swim around. Tbh I think bettas have it the worst. They sell like crazy and last a few months at best for most owners.

No Walmart's here in Thailand, but we got some big @ss iridescent sharks...

The show tanked once put an iridescent in something like a 5 gallon aquarium made out of an old tv to a mere child. He was like 11 years old. I know there are some highly intelligent children that are serious fishkeepers but if he was one of them then he wouldn’t have got tanked to make it. I’m not gonna lie, they make some pretty good tanks but they need to stop stocking the tanks... They don’t care about the animals.

In Canada, Walmart stopped selling fish several years ago.

In buying fish from this supplier you are actually contributing to the future of this supplier.
If you feel so strongly about the pangasius catfish they are selling, why contribute to keeping them in business?
The fish keeping trade has many fatalities and age old horror stories, but we are all contributors to such things.
I hate cruelty on any level but the reality is we are all cogs in this wheel.

Yeah, I'm aware. My sense of compassion got the better of me this time- I never buy fish from walmart. It's the same with a lot of animals, really. People buy because they don't know enough, or they feel bad for the animal. Birds and reptiles are in the same boat.

This is a true statement. Red Belly Pacus to do grow to 10". They just omitted the part that they then grow to 20", 30", 30"+.

I'm certain that my pacu came from this tank. Who would have thought that in no time at all the tiny baby pacu would dwarf the baby oscars?

I found this picture and added the caption, marched into my local WalMart and asked to speak the head fish person. After our encounter, I was assured that pacu would no longer be sold. Our WalMart has not sold pacu ever since. Sometimes speaking up can make a difference.

We should make a thread where we share what walmarts around us sell. Mine sell the most basic fish the most exotic thing would he dragon gobies I’ve seen about 3 times.
